David Serebrakian died at age 40 on August 31, 1992 . He had been on dialysis for 20 years, and had received 2 kidney transplants. He lived alone in the Ft. Lauderdale area for 10 years, and only returned to Monroe in late 1990. He was very brave throughout his illness....never complained , just tried to live his life to the fullest and enjoy each day. He was truly an inspiration to all around him.
Music was central to his life, even though he couldn't play the guitar for the last 10 years. He left volumes of poetry.
Bimbi Serebrakian McConnell, with husband and children moved to Florida to be near David (2 blocks away) in the late 1980's . In Bimbi's words "It was a wonderful experience for all of us. Life with David was always an adventure, a challenge, and it gave us more insight into his character. (not to mention the daily lessons in compassion and appreciation of life). We are grateful that our 3 sons have such vivid memories of their uncle...and each one has some special resemblance to him".
Bimbi's son Joseph is a budding film producer. His first feature film entitled "David" is an incredible tribute to the life and times of David Serebrakian. The film took one year of writing, filming, editing and premiered in 2002 (10 years after David died).
He is hoping to market it in the future....
In the words of producer Joseph McConnell
"David was a big movie buff and taught each one of us (his 3 nephews) alot about television and film. He also read many books and was a walking encyclopedia. Since he was bedridden, these were his main pleasures. I dont know exactly why he was paralyzed, I think it was all a very slow decline from the dialeses. At one time my grandmother tried to give him one of her kidneys but the transfer failed.
The film was shot on a budget of 5,000 dollars in the Monroe, Washingtonville area. Shot in 2002 and completed in 2003. The movie has been screened 3 times around the county and reached one film festival in Ulster county".More info on the film is available at: http://www.numsfilms.comBelow is an scanned image from the cover of Joseph's video film production.
