The Yankee Game that wasn't to be
Everything was set, 4 tix in a luxury suite, sitting with 3 former classmates, golf shirts ready, car filled with gas and an estimated time of arrival at Stan's of 5:30, plenty of time to have a brew or two. I left home at 3:15 amidst sun and clear weather. Arround 4 P.M. I tuned to the Yankee Station and they were giving the Yankee lineup and then said they were going into a rain delay - still clear but getting a little cloudy when arround exit 11 it darkened suddenly and reports of flooding were coming in on the radio, Westchester, Ct. and major roadways closed but what the hell, I'm a gambler so I continued on thinking maybe we should have exchanged cell phone numbers, no that's the easy way - then comes exit 15 and BANG - It's like I'm in a parking lot-everyone once in awhile I'd move a few feet, It' raining pretty hard now but if traffic clears I'll still get to Stan's on time. The reports from Yankee Stadium said they were going to still going to try and get at least one game in, 6 P.M. came and 6:30 and I wondered if Bruce, Ken And Ed had made it to Stan's and were enjoying a cold one - at this point I'd rather have a shot of 151- at 6:40 the announcement the twinbill had been cancelled and with that I called it a day - got off the next exit and headed South on the Turnpike- I glanced over and saw the 4 unused Yankee Tickets and thought of what could have been. There will be more Yankee Games and for tonight the class of 69 was outdone but come Oct. 2nd we'll get back at her.
Take care guys ----- John Rumsey
P.S. I owe you guys a Yankee Game or if you prefer A Giant Football game.
Please forward this to Ken And Ed - By the way did you ever make it to Stan's?
I finally got home at 9:45 - 61/2 hrs in my car - best move of the day - filling my car up with gas - John R.
The Dinner
... we waited for John Rumsey at a bar near the Yankee Stadium ... when it was apparent he wouldn't make it, Ed, Ken and Bruce went to Dominick's restaurant on Arthur Ave.. a famous restaurant on a famous ave. Food was fantastic... mussels marinara, great salad, roast veal, snapper maricata(sp).... thought tony soprano would show up any minute ...
