California: Ian was named CEO and Publisher of the ANG Newspapers (a Media News Group division) in January 2004. He has spent more than 30 years in the newspaper business, getting his start in New York City with Dow Jones & Co, publisher of the Wall Street Journal. Ian has a BS Business Administration (Suny At Fredonia) and two MBA’s ( Fairleigh Dickinson University).
Ian joined the McClatchy Company in Sacramento in 1983, and subsequently worked at McClatchy newspapers in Sacramento, Fresno and Tri-Cities, Washington, where he was named Publisher of the Tri-City Herald in 1997.
In September 2001, Ian joined Media News Group when he was named Publisher and President at their paper Long Beach, California.
At ANG, Ian is the publisher of five of their six papers, including the Oakland Tribune and Tri-Valley Herald in Pleasanton. He is a member of the ANG Editorial Board, which he chairs. In addition, Ian has all facets of the ANG business operation and daily publishing of the papers reporting to him.
Ian has a long history of community leadership in the places he has lived. Having served on and chaired numerous boards and non-profits. He was named citizen of the year for his community leadership in his last two communities
He is married to an extraordinary woman, Oksanna. They married in 1974 and have two boys, Shawn and Evan, who are now 27 and 22.
And of course, he is a graduate of the 1969 class of Monroe Woodbury High School. Go Crusaders!!!!!!
